Laser Pointer
Support for Laser Pointer, a small Safari extension for Mac.
Point on a webpage, drag to draw, and let your marks fade.
Laser Pointer requires macOS 12 or later and Safari 17.5 or later. This version is for Mac.
Getting started
Open the Laser Pointer app and choose Open Safari Settings…. Enable the extension under Extensions.
On a regular webpage, click its Safari toolbar icon and choose Use on this website. After that, the toolbar icon toggles the laser directly on that website.
Controls
- Move to point; drag to draw.
- Press Space to pause or resume normal page interaction.
- Press Escape to turn the laser off.
- Drag the gear to move it. Open it for three colours, three thicknesses, smoothing, and a 1–20 second visibility setting.
Marks remain while you keep writing, then fade after your chosen delay. Opening a new page clears the marks. Navigation never requests new website access automatically.
Troubleshooting
If the toolbar icon is missing, check Safari Settings → Extensions and confirm Laser Pointer is enabled. If it cannot run on a website, click its icon to allow that website, or check Safari Settings → Websites → Extensions.
Safari’s protected pages, Reader, and the built-in PDF viewer are not supported. Some websites use nested scrolling regions or unusual layouts that need individual testing.
To report a problem, email Keivan Mirzaei with your macOS and Safari versions and a short description. Avoid including private webpage content or personal information in screenshots.
